Three people were killed in a fatal accident as a car they were traveling in fell 20 feet into a canal in the early hours of Wednesday.

They were heading towards Chennai from Ramanathapuram. The vehicle toppled into the canal near Madhuranthagam on the Trichy-Chennai highway.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the driver had lost control, leading to the vehicle going over the safety wall and falling into a canal. Police and a fire and rescue team removed the bodies and sent them for autopsy.
